Espresso brown is having a moment, too.
September 15, 2024
By: Lianna Albrizio
Sabrina Carpenter’s smash single “Espresso” is impacting consumers in more ways than one. Now, the concentrated coffee oft spiked in martinis is supposedly everyone’s favorite fall hair color trend.
While red led as the “mane” trend in the past three years, the fiery hue is taking a backseat to the richness of espresso brown. According to Spate, the shade is among the fastest-growing hair color looks on search.
According to analysts at the beauty trend tracker, espresso brown has an average of 2.5K monthly searches and a +389.5% growth in searches compared to last year. The sole branded query—L’Oréal Hair Color Espresso Brown—indicates an opportunity for other boxed hair dye brands to tap into this trend.
What’s more, experts say adding espresso to packaging for similarly toned brown shades could also resonate with consumers. Analysts say brands could also showcase more models featuring this trending hair color. Further, the mention of lowlights in the top query, “espresso brown dark brown hair with lowlights” indicates that consumers are seeking a shot of salon inspiration. This finding presents salons with an opportunity to showcase this new addicting look.
Another trend seeing a resurgence in popularity is skunk highlights, and it doesn’t stink. First popularized in the Y2K era, the look entails a stark color contrast: chunky platinum blonde running through jet-black hair. Variations of the look are also queried for those seeking a less edgy and more practical style for everyday.
The trend is seeing solid numbers on Google. Spate says there is an average of 3.6K monthly searches and a +205.9% growth compared to last year for the color trend — giving brands and salons alike an opportunity to promote this statement-making hairstyle.
